Christine Heinrichs got her first chickens more than 20 years ago. She was a novice, but under their patient tutelage, she and her daughter soon learned how to manage them.

A professional journalist, she began writing about the members of the Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities. Their many and varied birds were a source of delight, but not getting the attention they deserved. Their knowledge and devotion to preserving historic breeds inspired her. She accepted the position of publicity director for the Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities in 2000.

When MBI Publishing invited her to write a book to share that knowledge with others, she put aside other work and dedicated her time to poultry. She continues to freelance magazine articles while she works on her next book.
